Why I do this work

I am deeply passionate about continuity of care, physiological birth and how motherhood changes you as a woman. I believe in the sacredness of the rite of passage of birth and how this can have a flow on effect on how you mother.

How you feel and how you are treated during this pivotal moment in your life matters. I believe that empowering women through pregnancy and birth can make empowered mothers who trust themselves and trust their knowing of their bodies and their babies.

Birth is an incredibly holistic act, physically, spiritually, emotionally. Through years of training and hands-on experience, I have come to believe that holistic, personalised care is where a family truly knows and trusts their midwife and produces better outcomes and deeper satisfaction in their birthing experience. I guide my clients through pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period with emotional support, education, and expert clinical care.

My own births, a homebirth transfer and emergency caesarean, followed by my "variation of normal" HBAC first and foremost reinforced my beliefs that who and where you birth matters immensely. If any of this resonates with you, please reach out for a conversation, I would love to hear from you.

I believe that birth is more than just a baby being born, it is a woman and family being reborn.

My journey into midwifery

I knew from high school that I wanted to be a midwife, but I didn't really understand what that entailed until I walked into my first midwifery class. I was already a nurse and had thought it would be a nicer plan to work with mothers and babies rather than the sick. I sat and listened to the reknowned Hannah Dahlen speak and that was it, a fire was lit inside me. I have worked as a midwife for over 10 years now in a variety of different spaces. A big, high risk tertiary birthing unit, Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) and now where my heart truly lies, in homebirth.

My experience working in hospitals has given me the skills to recognise and manage emergencies and advocate for women’s choices, but my passion and belief in physiological birth and women’s right to have choice is what has drawn me to homebirth and continuity of care in private practice. I have continued to learn and expand my knowledge in various ways such as traditional practices and Optimal Maternal Positioning (OMP). I believe the best midwives never stop learning.
